What Shopify actually does, not just what the docs say

Shopify documents the mechanism. These pages document the behavior — what we see in production across the stores we monitor: how often webhooks really arrive twice, how late they run, and which failures the docs describe but never quantify. Every page names the official docs first, then adds the number they leave out.
